Partner Case Study: UNDP

Indonesia Elections – UNDP’s Civic Education Programme.
As Indonesia geared up towards elections, Riza Iskandar and Cherie Hart, UNDP’s communication officers on the ground where able to capture UNDP’s support of civic education of marginalized groups such as sex workers and people living with disabilities. Using the Flip Cam the two sent video stories to New York in real time which were then uploaded to UNDP’s websites and YouTube as well as being sent out to international broadcasters for use on their news programs. We also made the footage available to international broadcasters who were covering the election process. More than 16 channels, including major news outlets in Australia, Japan and Singapore, used the video during prime time news broadcasts.
Both Cherie and Riza are not professional videographers and where able to film the election stories after watching the DVD Flip Cam tutorial that UNDP has produced.
On average, UNDP supports an election somewhere in the world every three weeks. We strengthen the work of one out of every three parliaments on the globe, helping scores of nations from Iraq to East Timor rebuild their democratic institutions.
UNDP has so far sent 35 Flips to various locations around the world and UNDP staffs are sending human interest video stories from far flung locations such as Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Gaza.
